Virtualshop3 and Cookies
The Virtualshop3 shopping cart does not require cookies.
Cookies are pieces of information generated by a Web server and stored in the user's computer, ready for future access. Cookies are embedded in the HTML information flowing back and forth between the user's computer and the servers.
Virtualshop3 uses fast client-side Javascript code to maintain the contents of its shopping cart. Most shopping websites that use this method require that 'cookies' are enabled in the user's browser. The problem with these kind of websites is that users can and often do turn cookies off in their browser settings because of security concerns, rendering that shopping site inoperable.
The Virtualshop3 shopping cart will operate even if the user has disabled cookies. Cookies will be used if they are available because they are fast and efficient, but they are not essential to the working of the cart. If the user has disabled them, Virtualshop3 pages will automatically detect this and use a different method to maintain the shopping cart contents.
As cookies can only be read by the domain that set them, the Virtualshop3 non-cookie feature means you can also transfer the contents of the cart and continue using it on pages in any domain rather than having to restrict your shopping site to a single domain.
